22 ways with vintage handkerchiefs

Embroidery

Didn't matter where I went when I was a young girl, school, Sunday school, sport, wherever, Mum always put a pretty little floral hankie in our pocket. I had heaps of them. My Nanna also gave as a new hankie every birthday and Christmas with a 20 cent piece tied in it. We thought it was the best. As I got older and my nose 'ran like a tap' whenever I had a cold, I just grabbed Dad's handkerchiefs. Not very feminine but did the job. I just happened to stumble across all these beautiful pins on Pinterest a couple of weeks ago but just never got around to posting this. They're just beautiful. My daughter has some hankies but I'm on the look out for some more from op shops just to make a few of these lovely things.

  1. Simply amazing! They are all gorgeous! I don't have any vintage handkerchiefs but I do have some vintage silk scarves that I should use!

  3. Anne I am literally smitten by all the beautiful ways to use those vintage hankies. A year and a half ago we had a gal come in to help us purge our home of junk and clutter and we threw or gave a way a ton of stuff including a whole collection of vintage hankies that belonged to my mother in law. WHAT was I thinking. I've thought about this often during the last 18 months and have kicked myself a zillion times for being so stupid. Then I see your post and the guilt is returning.Oh Woe is me:( Oh how I wish I had them back to make some of the beautiful things that are in your post. Oh well. Loved your post anyway! :D

    Hugs,

    Nann

  9. These are beautiful! I inherited a whole heap of hankies from my husband's grandmother. I had plans to save a few for my children but didn't know what to do with the rest! I'm so excited to try of few of these ideas! Do you know the original source for the dresses? I tried to click through and it was unavailable.

Thanks for all the great ideas! I can't wait to get started on those beautiful little flowers!

  11. I seriously hope you also use hankies for blowing your nose

I'm a 17 year old boy and I do, in my opinion that leaves half the older generations looking unclassy and to an extent uncivilised as kleenex just don't seem as good, and sniffling is definitely barbaric.
