Forget the canned soup...try homemade

Get the kids off to school, dig out the crockpot, chop up your vegies, add your stock and dinner's done. Don't worry about filling your pantry with those nasty tasting canned soups (sorry Mr Campbell). I just don't think there's anything worse. I must admit, I have bought the odd can of tomato soup as a back up on those 'no can do' dinner nights and added a few pasta noodles, meatballs, vegetables and herbs and spices for a quick meal. Homemade soup has to be one of the easiest meals going and can be as light or as hearty as you like. Here's a few of my favourites.

  3. Bidding adieu to canned soup was a rewarding, yet challenging part of our "kitchen makeover." Buh-bye MSG! Buh-bye excess sodium! (Even "lite' soups have an insane amount of sodium per serving.) The hardest part was tossing the canned mushroom soup that we;d throw into everything from meatloaf to tuna casserole.

Your green pea soups look inspiring!

  4. I love a good soup! It's a great way to get lots of veggies in and it's usually pretty economical. Plus with the hideous weather we're having now it's also very warming.

  5. We love soup for both the flavor and thriftiness, too. Mr. Campbell's is too high in sodium, and now he's putting high fructose corn syrup in his tomato soup, making it higher in calorie than his chicken noodle soup! No thank you, Mr. Campbell.

  6. I couldn't agree more about canned soup - I never use them! Soup is one of the easiest things to make and can be made out of all sorts of things from the pantry and crisper. I will be making pumpkin soup over the weekend. Can't wait - I just hope that the weather cools down!!

Thanks for linking this in to #teamfriday - great to have another post of your recipes!

  8. I've had a soup week here at Smith Towers. I made Jamie Oliver's Red Pepper with Smoked Paprika one, very good, and a Sweet Potato, Pumpkin and Coconut Milk one. Good weather for soup in Sydney, and it's very satisfying, and easy, to make. Love your photos.

  9. Homemade soup is so much better than canned stuff and it feels so much better to make something yourself. Thanks for linking up this recipe
